Although this is the safest configuration, it is considered safe to allow some access into the network for various purposes, usually consisting of an IP-VPN application in conjunction with the Firewall.

Firewalls come in many forms, but the two primary categories are Hardware Firewalls and Software Firewalls. Some companies offer combo solutions that use some hardware and software in one unit to provide these services, as well as other more basic routing functionality.

Depending upon your service provider, some offer integrated managed solutions for a recurring fee, while sometimes it's best to deal with a local integrator to purchase or lease this type of equipment or software solution.
