Unlike Switched services, Dedicated Long Distance is delivered over its own dedicated circuit, such as a T1 line, thus bypassing the local telephone company's switching station. A Dedicated Long Distance T1 is provisioned from the customer premises, to the Long Distance carrier's Point of Presence, or POP. From there, they send the call directly across their network to the destination city.

By not having to be switched at the originating local phone company, neither you, nor your long distance company, have to pay the front end local carrier to switch the call. Therefore, you save additional cents per minute compared to Switched Long Distance.

A single T1 line can carry up to 24 simultaneous calls. Multiple T1s can be linked together for larger applications. For exceptionally large applications, we also offer DS3 (T3) level connectivity, which is a single circuit capable of handling traffic equivalent to 28 T1s. For certain applications, there are also integrated services available, allowing more than one service to ride the T1 and further cost justify the dedicated services.

There is a cost for the dedicated connection, and the customer also has to have equipment present in their telephone system capable of receiving the Long Distance T1 circuit.
